CADY-COPP HOMESTEAD RENOVATION (c. 1745) Putnam, CT :: CME Architecture and the Structural Engineering team are collaborating on the design of repairs and restoration work for this National Register of Historic Places 18th century gambrel-roof dwelling.
Exposure to cool, damp conditions has caused extensive damage to the support beams in the stone-lined cellar of the structure.
Phase One of the rehabilitation will include repair of the first floor framing and support, as well as sill replacement. Exterior features also require replacement such as the skirt board, corner board, and trim due to weather exposure and rot.
The interior of the structure is exceptionally intact retaining nearly all of its original features.
Raised paneling, behive oven, built-in cupboards and hand-wrought hardware such as hinges, thumb-latches and crane remain in original, untouched condition.
The phased restoration design will ultimately include stabilization of the structure followed by replacement of
essential external features such as sill and historically-accurate windows and clapboard siding where needed.
