CME's environmental staff includes specialists in hydrogeology. Our hydrogeologists investigate suspected contamination sites and determine if contamination has taken place and where plumes may likely be revealed through soil and water testing. They use this information to predict where further contamination, if left unchecked, would spread to and develop plans to remediate existing problem areas and prevent future spills.
WATER QUALITY MONITORING: HARTFORD LANDFILL CLOSURE
Hartford, CT :: CME held a 3-year contract with the Connecticut Resource Recovery Authority (CRRA) to provide monitoring and other environmental services in support of a scheduled landfill closure from 2008-2010.
The project included providing quarterly monitoring of the water quality in and around the Hartford Landfill. Sampling locations included groundwater wells, surface water in adjacent streams and the Connecticut River, leachate discharges to sanitary sewer, and stormwater runoff.
In addition to the collection of samples and reporting of results, CME prepared groundwater elevation plans and interpreted the hydrogeologic information and water quality data. CME also conducted land survey and slope and pore pressure measurements to monitor the stability of the dike which protects the landfill and adjacent City properties from the Connecticut River.
Monitoring results were reported to the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) and the City of Hartford.
