LANTERN LANE ACTIVE ADULT COMMUNITY Vernon, CT :: CME provided insightful design that carefully balanced the aesthetic of the surrounding areas while maximizing the value of the property in creating this quaint, quiet, community for adults aged 55 and older. The 30 unit community is situated on a centralized, convenient, 6.18 acre parcel in Vernon, CT. The complex is the result of an infill development project that effectively utilizes a land parcel embedded in a transitional corridor between commercial development and medium density housing. The location provides residents convenient access to major commercial areas while providing the appeal of being an extension of the adjoining residential zone. The residential complex consists of a series of two-unit, three-unit with one single-unit dwellings; each affording ample floorspace and neighborhood-friendly parking. The thoughtful site layout provided by CME gave careful consideration for the neighboring church, further defined residential land uses and resolved issues posed by a busy traffic intersection nearby. A landscaping berm was designed and installed along the State Route 30 boundary to offer both a visual barrier to traffic and provide a noise buffer for homeowners within the development. CME's architectural plan ensured that the built environment was visually pleasing from all vantage points, providing an attractive aesthetic for residents, visitors and the surrounding community.
