Many commercial and industrial properties are unused or underutilized due to real or perceived environmental contamination.
The consequence of these "brownfields" is loss of tax revenue, fewer job opportunities, and blighted properties that become targets for
vandalism.
Brownfield redevelopment poses significant challenges. Yet successful redevelopment is a valuable tool to assist Smart Growth that so
many communities desire. By partnering with business owners, public officials, institutions and communities, CME can provide guidance for developing
strategies that overcome the hurdles that brownfields redevelopment may face. We can provide assistance with site evaluation, grant writing,
legal navigation & permitting, technical support and public outreach.
On May 28, 2008, CME partnered with the Eastern CT Resource Conservation and Development Area (RC&D)
to present a free seminar held at Quinebaug Valley Community College on the topic of Brownfields: Strategies for Rehabilitation and Redevelopment.
